The LA Music Academy College of Music is offering merit-based scholarships for incoming international and domestic students. Scholarship awards are presented in the form of tuition credit only. The total award amount is for six quarters and applied to the tuition evenly. For example, if an award is $6,000.00, the tuition credit per quarter is $1,000.00. If a student only completes four quarters, the remaining $2,000.00 of the award is forfeited. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5 for their award to continue to the following quarter. Students who fall below the 3.5 CGPA will be placed on scholarship probation and have one quarter to raise it.

After a successful run in Boston, Stockholm gets its turn.

The main goal of Music Hack Day is to explore and build the next generation of music applications. It's a full weekend of hacking in which participants will conceptualize, create and present their projects. Music + software + hardware + art + the web. Anything goes as long as it's music related.

The Drop: Urban Art
3-17 October 2009

A special exhibition 2012+ curated by Alexandra Chang and Mie Iwatsuki.

The 2012+ exhibition investigates the relationship of the urban-based artist and city dweller to their environs, from the city, to how they situate themselves in relationship to the environment on a global level. Each artist presented in the show contemplates their link to their notion of the environment in a unique way. By including both urban space as well as the natural environment within this realm, these artists take into account a point of view specific to the city dweller.

The special exhibition 2012+ is situated within the frameworks of the daylong art festival THE DROP: URBAN ART INFILL, a series of planned indoor and outdoor art projects, including the best in New York’s independent music, fashion, art and design, creating dialogue in the New York community about our relationship to art, the city and the greater global environment.

TodaysArt 09:
The International festival beyond art is coming to The Hague, The Netherlands
25/26 September 2009

TodaysArt 09 Announces:

Whether external, internal, moral, physical, ideal, abstract, concrete, constructive or destructive, the red thread of conflict stitches TODAYSART 09 together this year as we put friction, opposition and ambivalence under the gun. From our serendipitous location in The Hague, international city of peace and justice, heart of international conflict management, we look at when, how and why conflict is woven through our lives in positive and less positive ways. We look at - in a world struggling to cope with tragic, violent clashes and destructive environmental disasters - the inevitability of conflict and wonder if there is an evitability.

Our program proudly presents works that challenge and provoke; works that present ideas and concepts that may not be easily understood or quickly digested. The best ideas are dangerous; they confront the established order and conflict with the status quo.

IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK - A two-day event on June 13th – 14th, 2007 will be bringing high level music industry debate and the most exciting new bands in the modern world to that narrow strip of land between the Hudson and the East River.

Curated by Yvette Livesey and Factory maverick Anthony H. Wilson, founders of IN THE CITY, the internationally respected music convention out of Manchester, England, and with several nods to the great traditions of the New Music Seminar, which ruled in the 80's and early 90's, IN THE CITY OF NEW YORK is two days of talking about music, thinking about music and just enjoying music.

During the day 500 esteemed industry leaders will gather in the W Hotel, Union Square for a series of panels, seminars and master classes on the state of the music industry today and, more importantly, tomorrow. There will be two streams of unique panels; the ever-evolving music business will be debated in the great 1920's ballroom, and deep tech discussions will take place in the intimate studio room.

Like IN THE CITY in England, the daytime side of the event will center on major industry figures/legends in conversation with skilled interviewers.

By night the scene will shift to the 2,100-capacity Nokia Theatre, Times Square for two nights of simply the Best of British emerging talent. Each night will feature a major British artist already breaking in the US, a newly signed British artist with their first album out and with high expectations from their company, be it major or indie and then each night one of the two best unsigned artists from the recent IN THE CITY UNSIGNED event in Manchester.

R.E.M., Death Cab for Cutie, Boots Riley of The Coup and many other musicians and independent record labels are joining a nationwide campaign to recruit thousands of artists to support the fight for net neutrality.

http://www.futureofmusic.org/rockthenet/index.cfm

"Rock the Net" is being organized by the Future of Music Coalition, Noise Pop, and Zeitgeist Artist Management.

Net neutrality is the idea that all websites and services should be equally accessible on the Internet. Some Internet service providers have proposed charging a fee to Internet content providers to make their sites load faster. Rock the Net believes such a move could make it harder for fans to access the vibrant array of musical offerings now available online.

Rock the Net, intends to get thousands of musicians, independent labels and music services to become part of the effort to keep a 'payola' system from being established on the Internet.

Future of Music Coalition (
FMC) is a national nonprofit education, research and advocacy organization that identifies, examines, interprets and translates the challenging issues at the intersection of music, law, technology and policy. FMC achieves this through continuous interaction with musicians and through collaborations with other creator/citizen groups.

They donít call it Hotlanta for nothing! Great looking people, great food, great clubs and a blossoming music scene, four ingredients that made for a set of very interesting music conferences. The Remix Hotel and Billboard R&B Hip Hop Conference Awards took place at the spacious Renaissance Waverly Hotel and Convention center September 6- 8th.

The 3-day conference and awards packed in a weekís worth of activities that included panel discussions, showcase luncheons, cocktail parties and afterparties with the Billboard Awards show topping off the festivities on Friday night.

The business, educational and social opportunities were abundant at this 7th annual event for Billboard which also served as the debut for Remix Hotel Atlanta, the traveling music production and performance conference that features technology master classes, workshops, gear demos, panels, and clinics about and for electronic and urban music producers, engineers, musicians, and DJs. Attendees included over 1,000 industry professionals including record label execs, producers, managers, attorneyís, publishers, agents, artists, press and the hottest pro audio manufacturers.

The climactic Friday night awards show saw winners in the familiar chart toppers Mariah Carey, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, Young Jezzy, and Kanye West among others, though the highlight of the evening was seeing Chuck D, Hank Shocklee and a freshly suited and a timelessly flavorful Flavor Flav on hand to accept the Hip-Hop Founders Award that was presented to Public Enemy, it was energetic moment filled with rousing applause and theater full of fans on its feet.

Big congrats to you gentlemen on behalf of the Shocklee.com editorial staff.
